David
started the game after watching his father play
at the age of six. After a steady climb through
the amateur ranks he turned professional after
earning Walker Cup honours in 1997. After a
year and half on the Challenge Tour, which included
two tournament wins, David made a phenomenal
start to his European Tour career by leading
from the start in the 1999 Moroccan Open, only
to lose out to Miguel Angel Martin at the sixth
sudden death play off hole. The following week
he was not to be denied, winning the Compaq
European Grand Prix, by one shot from Retief
Goosen and David Carter, in only his second
outing on the European Tour. He then went on
to finish 40th in the Order of Merit from just
15 starts in his rookie season.
David is now embarking on his 9th successive
season on the European Tour. With his professional
work ethic and comprehensive support team, which
includes a personal assistant, personal trainer,
psychologist and one of the Country's Top Golf
Coaches Tim Barter, who is a regular on-course
commentator and interviewer on Sky Sports golf
coverage, he is making every effort to improve
all aspects of his game and therefore is looking
forward to his best year yet.
