Tour Tips
PRACTICE BEFORE YOU PLAY

My best Tour Tip from my years on the European Tour is one of the simplest tips anyone could give, practice before you play. I will guarantee that if you give yourself 45 minutes to hit some full shots, chip shots and putts before each time you play you will play much better and there is far less chance of injuring yourself.

A lot of amateurs I play with at home and in Pro-Ams spend the first 6 to 9 holes playing badly as they are still warming up. Give yourself a chance the next time you play, whether it's in a Monthly Medal or a knock with your friends, get your eye in with three quarters of an hour practice and you'll be much better off. I know it's simple be it's true!

Spend 70% of your practice time on the short game and see your scores tumble!

I always practice my short game more than my long game. If you think about it, how many shots do we have from inside a 100 yards. Next time you play count all those pitches, chips and putts and I bet they add up to more than your long shots. The best example of this is that we use our putter at least twice as much as our driver! So if you dedicate the majority of your practice time to your short game I guarantee your scores will come down.
